Business context
StageClip reached out to The Software House to improve the performance and scalability of their web platform for managing videos from graduation ceremonies.
The case was urgent. Because of the COVID pandemic of 2019, the company had to pivot an R&D project for staging online video graduations. StageClip also signed a new contract and needed to onboard 500+ institutions before March 2020.
The client brought in our development team to:
- Upgrade StageClip’s MVP product to allow hundreds of students to upload their graduation speeches,
- Build an online video editor to let universities create their own compilations.
Partnership goal To build a new version of the video graduation platform that includes self-service modules
Before
StageClip spent hours on manual work to set up a branded landing page for a client, create their video template, and sequence student clips into one video
After
Self-service components save StageClip’s time. The client sets up a landing page themselves. They use another editor to order graduation clips before the last cut.
The Software House formed a full scrum team that led the development process
We worked on:
Team formation
At one point, our dedicated team scaled up to 22 experts that included 8 Developers, 4 QA Engineers, and 2 Project Managers.
Before COVID, StageClip initially worked with a team of 2 Developers and a QA Engineer.
When their client’s countries introduced event bans, the company’s CTO requested all hands available to launch their first digital product.
Our partnership
In just 2 months, StageClip completed product development and onboarded 500+ universities. They joined before the March 2020 deadline. During our 2-year partnership, the event platform serviced 1441 events, 455,000 users, and 2.4M emails.
The development
We built a new web application with React, Node, and AWS that became the product’s core. Key functions included:
- An email management and delivery system,
- An event configuration panel,
- The clip delivery system.
Before StageClip came to us, only 2 developers (and sometime the CTO) created landing pages and video montages for clients.
All content required an institution’s original branding — and there were hundreds of them.
To save the team’s time needed for product growth, we built two self-service functions for the platform.
- Landing page editor
Each client gets a tested page format. They upload their logo, images, and choose a color of preference.
- A video editor called “StageClip Producer”
The editor uses an After Effects template synced with the cloud.
The client changes the order of video clips, the subtitles, or infobar colors. Then, the template gets updated, and its new version goes to the cloud for rendering.
User feedback
StageClip offers clients a survey service that goes to graduates after they receive their clips.
The goal is to know where will the alumni move to or what’s their profession of choice.
According to StageClip, 93% graduates who used the product complete the survey. Universities reach an average of 33% response rate.
